Job title: Associate Applied Engineer, Sales Engineering
Job location: Atlanta, Georgia
Work dynamic: Office based
Position purpose
The Applied Engineer turns NCR Voyix platform capability into something a customer can see, test and decide on. The role works with Engineering, Product, Sales and customer stakeholders to show how Voyix Edge, cloud-native infrastructure and modern integrations address operational problems, and what those problems are worth solving. The primary focus is building customer-facing demonstrations, prototypes and integrations, evaluating operational workflows, validating platform capability in real environments, and connecting what the technology does to a measurable business outcome.
This is an AI-native seat. The person in it is expected to build with agentic AI tooling every day, and the hiring bar reflects that. The next section sets out what is meant by it, because candidates are screened against it.
How this team works with AI:
Read this section before applying. It is the part of the role most candidates misjudge.
The team works through agentic AI tools that read a codebase, write files, run commands and operate on real data: Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, GitHub Copilot in agent mode, and whatever replaces them. AI is the default way output gets produced here, whether that output is a demonstration environment, an integration, a data analysis, an internal tool or a customer presentation.
A normal week in this role includes:
- Building a working application, prototype or interactive model with an agent doing most of the typing, and reviewing what it produced before anyone sees it
- Standing up an agent, script or automation for a task that repeats, so it stops being done by hand
- Putting call transcripts, customer documents and operational data through a model, and turning the result into something a customer team can act on
- Producing a customer deck or a quantified business case from source material the model reads for you
- Writing the prompts, instruction files, tool definitions and context that make the output consistent enough to use in front of a customer
- Knowing where the tooling gets things wrong and checking it, because a wrong number in front of a customer is yours
- Conversational chatbot use is the baseline we assume every candidate arrives with. This role starts well past it. We are hiring people who have already rebuilt the way they work around these tools and can show what that produced.
Key Responsibilities:
- Make the NCR Voyix platform tangible for customers by building demonstrations, integrations and proofs of concept that show how Voyix Edge operates inside a real restaurant environment and alongside the technology the customer already runs.
- Build those assets with AI tooling as the primary method, at a volume and pace that is not reachable without it, and take responsibility for validating what the tooling produces before it reaches a customer.
- Connect platform capability to operational outcomes by analyzing customer workflows, validating improvement opportunities and quantifying impact on speed of service, labor efficiency, throughput and operational performance.
- Strengthen the NCR Voyix competitive position by showing how an open, edge-native platform deploys, integrates and scales alongside customer applications in ways closed-platform competitors cannot.
- Expand the effectiveness of Sales Engineering by developing reusable demos, technical assets and implementation patterns that shorten the path from customer requirement to working solution, and that reduce the dependency on Product Engineering for sales-cycle support.
- Build the internal AI tooling the wider team uses, including prompts, instruction files, agents and automations, and show colleagues how to work the same way.
- Shape platform adoption and future development by carrying customer feedback, operational findings and emerging requirements back to Product and Engineering to influence roadmap priorities.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or a related quantitative discipline.
- Daily, hands-on use of agentic AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or GitHub Copilot in agent mode, used to build and ship working output rather than to answer questions. Conversational chatbot use on its own does not meet this requirement.
- Work you built yourself with those tools that you can demonstrate and explain: an application, an agent, an automation, an analysis pipeline, a data product or a document and presentation system. Expect to walk through how you directed the model, where it went wrong and what you did about it.
- Ability to analyze a complex operational or technical problem and turn the findings into a practical, data-driven recommendation.
- Experience with Python, SQL or similar analytical and development tools, including working in them through an AI coding tool.
- Familiarity with APIs, cloud platforms, software integrations, containerized environments or related technical concepts.
- Strong analytical, quantitative and structured problem-solving skills.
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to connect a technical concept to an operational outcome and a business value.
- Comfort engaging directly with customers and participating in both technical and business discussions.
- Ability to collaborate across Engineering, Product and customer-facing teams.
- Willingness to travel to customer locations as needed.
Preferred:
- Experience building against an LLM API or an agent framework: tool use, retrieval, structured output, evaluation of results.
- Prompt and context engineering: instruction files, reusable skills, model evaluation, prompts kept under version control.
- AI use outside of code, including transcript and document analysis, research, deck and document generation, and data cleanup at volume.
- A public artifact built this way: a repository, a working demo, a site or a writeup.
- An internship or co-op in a commercial, operations or technology function.
- Restaurant, retail or hospitality experience in any capacity, including hourly.
What the interview covers:
One portion of the interview is a walkthrough of something you built with AI tooling. Bring it, open it, and be ready to go through how you directed the model, what it got wrong, how you caught it and what you would do differently. Candidates who can only describe AI use in general terms do not pass this stage.
