ABOUT MGT INSURANCE MGT is the first AI-driven, neo-insurer focused on evolving commercial P&C insurance for the brokers and small business owners. By combining the expertise of industry veterans with state-of-the-art technology, we are ushering in the next evolution of commercial insurance and working to move the industry forward through the use of modern technology, better processes, and a rock-star team. We seek visionary leaders who thrive in dynamic, entrepreneurial settings, and excel in autonomous roles. We are looking for an Insurance Product Manager, Commercial Lines to own the growth, profitability, and execution of product changes for a designated line of business. You see inefficiency in traditional insurance and want to fix it. You’re equally comfortable in a spreadsheet, a strategy conversation, and the tech stack, and you understand that in insurance, every decision is a risk decision. WHAT YOU’LL DO You will be the product owner for a designated commercial line of business, responsible for growing it profitably. Working closely with underwriting and the Product Development Manager, you will translate performance data, competitor research, and field feedback into product changes, and you will see those changes through to implementation in our systems. You will shape appetite, refine coverage features, and build the product infrastructure that enables smarter underwriting at scale. You will analyze performance by class and state, and prepare state-specific segmentation and product needs (appetite, eligibility, coverage, and pricing considerations) so the product can grow profitably in each market. You will surface emerging risks and opportunities and communicate complex findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. You will drive execution. You will define requirements, prioritize the roadmap, and implement approved product changes in the rater and UI using our AI-enabled tools, then validate them before and after release. The Product Development Manager leads forms, rates, and state filings; you are responsible for making sure approved and filed changes are implemented accurately, on time, and in line with underwriting intent. A working knowledge of commercial P&C insurance regulations, including state rate and form requirements, is helpful but not required. You’ll be operating in an environment where taking initiative and moving work forward is expected. An example of work you may take on, in collaboration with underwriting and the Product Development Manager, could include: • Use loss, premium, and conversion data by state and class to identify segments where the product can grow profitably, or where it needs tighter appetite or pricing • Define the product need and requirements for that change, and align on direction with underwriting and the Product Development Manager • Implement the change in the rater and UI using our AI-enabled tools, including rating, rules, and eligibility logic • Test and validate the change against approved forms, rates, rules, and underwriting guidelines • Launch the change in production in an MVP form • Monitor results by state and class, and build detailed requirements for post-MVP production releases • Work with internal stakeholders to prioritize post-MVP releases KEY RESPONSIBILITIES LINE OF BUSINESS OWNERSHIP • Own the growth and profitability of a designated commercial line of business product • Monitor performance across classes and states, including loss ratios, premium, retention, and quote-to-bind trends • Recommend appetite, coverage, and pricing changes in partnership with underwriting STATE SEGMENTATION & GROWTH • Prepare state-specific segmentation and product needs for the line of business • Identify state and class opportunities and risks, and translate them into product requirements • Coordinate with the Product Development Manager so product needs are reflected in forms, rates, and filings IMPLEMENTATION & EXECUTION • Implement approved product changes in the rater and UI using our AI-enabled tools, and move them from concept to production • Write clear requirements and test cases, review AI-generated changes, and validate system output against approved forms, rates, rules, and guidelines • Partner with engineering on releases and system changes beyond what the product team configures directly • Own the post-launch monitoring and follow-up for changes you release CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION • Work closely with underwriting and the Product Development Manager on every product change • Align with claims, actuarial, compliance, distribution, and engineering as needed • Provide direction to the Product Management Analyst supporting the line of business WHAT YOU BRING • ~8–12 years of experience in commercial insurance, including underwriting, product, or closely related analytics and implementation roles • Experience owning or managing the performance of a commercial line of business or product, ideally including growth and profitability • A working understanding of data and rating logic (such as SQL, Python, and how raters and rules are built), enough to direct and review AI-enabled implementation. Writing code is not required • Experience implementing product changes in policy, rating, or quoting systems • Strong analytical skills, including segmentation by state and class, and the ability to translate data into product decisions that drive business outcomes • Sound judgment under ambiguity and the ability to move quickly without sacrificing rigor • Clear and effective communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders across underwriting, distribution, technology, and compliance • Understanding of state rate, rule, and form requirements and how they affect implementation is helpful • A strong interest in modernizing the small business insurance experience for brokers and their clients is a core requirement for this role COMPENSATION The base salary range for this role is $120,000 – $160,000 annually. Compensation will depend on qualifications, experience, and location. This role is also eligible for performance-based bonus and equity, in addition to a comprehensive benefits package. We recognize that no candidate will meet every qualification and encourage individuals with relevant experience and interest in the role to apply.
