Roomix is a pioneering DIY platform set to revolutionise how millennials design, shop and do projects in their homes. Today, getting started on a DIY project is daunting. The journey for the customer is fragmented and generic; traditional retailers are old-fashioned and gendered.

Our mission is to empower the next generation of doers. We see a world in which everyone has access to practical skills and the ability to build spaces they are both proud of and happy to live in. We leave them with the confidence of self-reliance and a new suite of practical skills.

What we do

We use technology to help customers navigate difficult and complex projects. We provide them with digital tools to design their projects, then we sell them exactly what they need in the form of project kits delivered to their door. We pair their kits with content tailored to their project and their space. Ultimately, we sell confidence. To do this we believe in owning an end-to-end customer journey in this sector, taking customers from their vision to action.

We are backed by one of the leading early stage VCs in Europe and already have active paying customers. We have started to build a community around Instagram and are growing engagement. We expect to raise again in Spring/Summer 2022. We have an experienced team supported by our investor Founders Factory. We work flexibly with a mix of remote working and the team coming together on a regular basis.

Job Description

👀 Are you our CTO?

Our CTO is the most important hire we’re ever going to make, and we’d love to find someone to work with the co-founders, Shona and Mark, as part of the founding team.

Why you’ll be a fundamental addition to the team:

Our customers are tech-savvy millennials and our user experience has to be show-stopping.

You will be the first technical hire; you’ll need to own the strategic architecture from day one, get stuck into coding as well as building a world class engineering team.

Key challenges you’ll help solve:

You will develop AI models and smart devices to help customers identify DIY tasks as well as navigate the tricky parts of DIY like measurement and layout planning in their space.
You will create a recommendation engine that not only suggests products but can auto-build custom project bundles.
You will need to develop a solution to serve personalised how to content that meets the specific needs of each customer and their space based on what we know about them and their project.

Qualifications

Expected experience you’ll come with:

We assume you are confident over the full stack of web and/or mobile development and comfortable not just planning but executing on a technical strategy.
You’ll be familiar with e-commerce systems (preferably Shopify) as well as the associated ecosystem of apps and integrations.
Have experience in API development for partnerships and integrations with third party software; we don't need - or want - to build everything from scratch.
You’ll have led a product development team before and be comfortable with identifying & hiring great technical talent.
Plus you’ll have worked in one or more early-stage startups and have an appetite for experimenting with new technologies and tools to drive innovation and creativity.
