About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Kafka Platform Engineer to join one of our consulting assignments in Stockholm. You will be responsible for building, operating, securing, and continuously improving integration and messaging platform capabilities used by multiple development teams. You will work with a âyou build it â you run itâ approach, taking end-to-end responsibility for platform stability, scalability, performance, and operational excellence. This is primarily a platform engineering and integration role, rather than a traditional application development position. Manage enterprise HiveMQ MQTT broker environments. Plan and execute Kafka, Strimzi, and HiveMQ upgrades and security patching with minimal or zero application downtime. Develop and maintain custom Kafka Connect Source/Sink connectors for integration between legacy systems and cloud environments. Design Kafka scaling strategies, node affinity, topology spread constraints, persistent storage, and resource allocation for high-volume workloads. Manage Kafka topics, partitions, compaction, retention, segments, and cluster resources. Design and maintain high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions, including cross-region replication and automated failover. Manage Schema Registry and support Avro, Protobuf, and JSON Schema governance. Design secure ingress and traffic-routing solutions for messaging platforms. Implement Kafka ACLs, SASL authentication, OAuth/OIDC integrations, RBAC, SSL, and mTLS. Build and maintain observability solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Fluent Bit, and/or OpenTelemetry. Develop proactive monitoring and alerting for infrastructure and Kafka-related issues. Perform root-cause analysis for platform incidents and implement preventative measures. Provide advanced/Tier 3 support for issues including consumer lag, rebalance problems, storage issues, and network bottlenecks. Act as a technical SME for development teams using Java and Spring Boot, providing guidance on Kafka producer/consumer configurations and best practices. Develop reusable GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure, configuration, and deployment validation. Implement automated scaling solutions such as KEDA where appropriate. Build developer self-service capabilities for provisioning topics, schemas, credentials, and other platform resources within defined governance and security controls. Maintain clear technical documentation, READMEs, and operational guidelines. Take ownership of incident, problem, and change management at platform level. Collaborate with security, architecture, infrastructure, and development teams. Required Skills & Experience
